I play guitar, piano, bass, and can hold a beat on a drumkit. I am only strong in guitar, however.

Yeah. I know a lot of people who can play 2 or 3 instruments. That to me is amazing--it took me so long to learn the flute!!

For me, once I learned guitar, playing bass was easy. And once I learned those two, it was easier for me to understand the concepts behind piano and pick it up. I think it always depends on the instrument, but it's always easier to learn a new instrument after you've already learned an instrument in most cases.

I think that the hardest part about Piano is learning the sheet music. I eventually got really frustrated with it and just decided I was going to learn to play and not worry about the sheet music, and that's when I started feeling more confident with it. Of course I can still read chord charts very well and all of that, but as a musician who can use the ear well, I never really saw the need to go through the extra work. Maybe that's just me.

I take my hat off to both of you . I think it is wonderful to play and instrument (or several) and I am even more impressed when people can do it by ear. I learned to read sheet music at school and the basics of composition and arrangement . I even arranged a small piece of piano music for a small group for an inter-house music competition but it was all done as an intellectual exercise, I lack the ear and the co-ordination to play. I really prefer to live my musical life vicariously, enjoying what other people do rather than taking part in the making of music

I guess I learned by ear because I was too lazy to learn the sheet music. It took me forever to get good at it though. I still sometimes wish I had just done it the right way.

It's actually very hard for me to pick such things up. I just like to play despite, perhaps even because of this.

I played the Piano a lot when I was younger, but stopped playing. I tried learning the guitar, but was never really good at it. If I were to get back into playing music again, it'd be the piano for sure.

Yeah, I tried the guitar too--but I could hardly call it tired-- only like the first six pages nof a guitar lesson book.

I play guitar, flute, drums, bass, and dabble in piano, mandolin, violin, and ukulele.
@flutist - The guitar lesson books usually make it boring to learn guitar. Try watching youtube video lessons or looking up the sheets for some of your favorite songs. That makes if much more fun.
